Tritons Cruise Past Sailfish

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's basketball team utilized a dominant second half on the way to a 94-80 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic at the McArthur Center on Saturday afternoon. EC was firing on all cylinders, making the most points in an SSC contest this season and holding a plus-18 rebound advantage. 

PBA jumped out to an early 13-5 favor near the 12-minute media timeout. However, Eckerd rolled off eight consecutive points to even the score at 15-15. The teams traded leads the rest of the half before the Tritons took a 34-30 lead at the break. 

An early 8-0 Tritons' run in the second half put Eckerd up by 10 at the 16:42 mark. Five straight points by Miquel Llompart gave Eckerd a 63-50 favor at the 10:43 mark. EC continued to surge in front, using an 11-3 run to take a 20-point advantage with 4:19 left. Eckerd cruised the rest of the way for a 94-80 victory.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

  • The Tritons' 94 points are the most in an SSC contest this season and tie for the second-best mark on the year. 
  • Four Tritons added double-figures: Wyatt Triestmann (22), Kent Garard (19), Isaiah Placide (18), Miquel Llompart (14).  
  • Triestman made his first career start while posting a career-high 22 points. He's scored in double figures for three straight games. 
  • Timothy Thompson posted a season-high 15 boards. The mark was two off tying his career-high. He added three blocks and a steal as well.  
  • The Tritons shot 50 percent from the floor and 40.7 percent from the perimeter. 
  • There were a combined 11 lead changes and ties. 
  • Eckerd held a 49-31 advantage on the boards.
