TAMPA, Fla. - A Spartans surge midway through the second half was the difference as the Eckerd men's basketball team dropped its SSC road contest at Tampa, 85-69, on Wednesday evening.
UTampa jumped out to a 14-7 lead at the 12-minute media. The Spartans held between a one and two possession lead until the Tritons used a 7-1 run to take a 29-26 favor with 2:42 left in the half. EC pushed its lead to five before taking a 33-31 advantage at intermission.
Tampa opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a six-point favor. They pushed their lead to double-digits at the 13-minute mark, but Eckerd responded with a 9-1 run to cut its deficit to three with 10:17 left. Tampa rallied with 10 unanswered points to regain its double-digit favor. They stayed in front by double figures the rest of the way to secure the win.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Timothy Thompson posted a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double. It was his fifth double-double of the year. His 13 boards are a season-high. He rounded out his stat line with three blocks.
- Wyatt Triestman and Isaiah Placide led Eckerd with 18 points each. Triestman's mark set a career-high.
- Placide also added five assists and two steals.
