Volleyball secures four-set road win over Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons volleyball team earned a four-set win over the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Friday night.

After enduring a 25-12 loss that saw the Sharks go without committing an error, the Tritons bounced back in a big way with the first seven points of game two off of the serve of Molly Fischer. The two teams traded rally wins from there, but Eckerd broke away for good after using a 6-1 scoring run to turn a 14-8 lead into a double-digit margin at 20-9. The Sharks got made it close and got within six points, but a kill from Grace Dumont sealed the 25-18 victory to even the match.

In set three, the Tritons again began the frame with a scoring outburst, this time seeing a 6-0 run with Kinga Michalska serving the ball. Despite the Sharks trimming the differential to a single point on three different occasions, as well as evening the score at 19-19, Eckerd never fell behind, using a 6-2 spurt to close out the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match. Back-to-back kills from Kaitlyn Dohs moved the Tritons back out in front after the deadlock at 19, while a pair of kills from Michalska helped close out the game on a 3-0 run.

Neither team held a lead of more than two points throughout the entirety of the fourth set until the Tritons won by a final margin of three. With the game tied at 18 points apiece, Eckerd benefited from a pair of errors from Nova and never looked back. Kills by Michalska accounted for the next three points for the Tritons and after the Sharks fended off one match point, Dumont dumped a ball into an open space on the other side of the net to secure the 25-22 victory and match win for Eckerd.

The Tritons out-hit the Sharks 60 kills to 41 in the win, led by Michalska's 19 and Dohs' 16. Dohs was also the top defender for the team with 19 digs, while Michalska was next with 16. Dumont put up 33 assists in her three sets played and added six kills.

With the win, the Tritons improve to 13-8 overall and 3-7 in SSC play. The team will be back in action tomorrow at Palm Beach Atlantic.
