WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons volleyball team came up short in match two of its weekend road trip on Saturday, falling to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish by a score of 3-1.
After falling behind 7-3 to begin the match, the Tritons used six straight points, three of which came via service ace by
Kinga Michalska, to take a 9-7 advantage. The Sailfish never went back out in front the rest of the set, with the Tritons building a lead of as many as five at a score of 19-14. PBA stormed back to even the score at 23 and fended off two set points for the Tritons, but back-to-back blocks from Eckerd secured a 27-25 win in the opening frame.
Natalie Aniol was credited for consecutive block assists in the final two points.Â
The Tritons began set two with three straight points off the serve of Michalska, which included two more aces. The two teams went back and forth from there and neither squad owned a lead of more than three throughout the entire game. Tied at 23, the Sailfish earned their first set point of the afternoon, but a kill from Aniol evened the score back up at 24. Consecutive kills from PBA clinched the set and brought the match score to one win apiece. The Sailfish earned a 25-18 win in the third and 25-19 triumph in the fourth to secured the victory.
Michalska led the way for Eckerd with 19 kills, 14 digs, and five service aces, while Aniol hit .333 in the contest with seven kills and four blocks.Â
The Tritons will be back in action Friday at No. 3 Barry.
