ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons volleyball team dropped a conference home match to the visiting Embry-Riddle Eagles on Tuesday by a score of 3-1.
Embry-Riddle was the first team to 10 points in the opening set, doubling up the Tritons 10-5 before building its largest lead of game at 20-10. A pair of kills by
Kaitlyn Dohs highlighted an Eckerd 4-1 run to get the team within seven, but the Eagles snagged the opener by a score of 25-17. The visitors never trailed in the second after grabbing the first four points of the frame and eventually took a 2-0 lead in the match following a 25-19 win in set two.
The Tritons bounced back with a win in set three, beginning by erasing a small 8-7 deficit with the game's next four points to force an Eagles timeout an move out in front. Eckerd had both its best performance offensively and defensively in the third, posting 15 kills on .297 efficiency while holding Embry-Riddle to just .109 hitting the ball and forcing seven miscues. After moving out in front 11-8, the Tritons never lost the lead the rest of the way, seeing a service ace by Dohs and a block by
Natalie Aniol account for the final two points to seal the 25-19 victory. A fast start by the visitors in set four led to a 25-16 to clinch the match win.
Dohs led the way with a team-high 13 kills, followed by 11 from
Seiler Hruska.
Sydney Williams and Hruska each posted double-digit digs defensively with 16 and 13, while
Gabi Jedrzejczak contributed 36 assists.Â
The Tritons will be back in action Friday to battle Nova Southeastern on the road.
