Women's soccer drops non-conference contest at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The Eckerd women's soccer team was defeated by the Valdosta State Blazers on Monday night, falling on the road by a score of 3-1.

The two teams combined for 16 shot attempts in the opening 45 minutes, with the home team holding a slight plus-two margin in the category. The Blazers struck early with a score less than three minutes into the game and then added onto their lead with another strike in the 16th minute. Eckerd saw a pair of shots off the mark in the first eight minutes, followed by three within a four-minute span later in the half, but could not find the back of the net. Valdosta State saw one more goal before halftime to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

The Tritons inched closer with a goal by Nadia Buist in the 54th minute on an assist from Olivia Ozbolt to begin an aggressive second half that saw a plus-seven shot advantage. Four of the Blazers' seven shots came within three minutes of each other right before the Tritons collected the goal, two of which were saved by Madi Winn. Eckerd put up five attempts in the final 10 minutes, but the 3-1 score remained intact to the final buzzer.

Eckerd falls to 4-5-3 with the loss. The team will return home to face Florida Tech for Senior Day on Saturday.
