WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Eckerd women's soccer team collected a road victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday by a score of 3-2.
The Tritons struck quickly as Jasmine Gallo sent in the first goal of the game just 34 seconds into the contest on a double assist from both Helen Scheer and Olivia Ozbolt. Following the early tally, each team saw multiple opportunities on their opponent's side of the field, combining for five shots over the course of the seven minutes. In the 19th minutes, Eckerd sent in its second strike of the night, this time seeing a goal from Scheer on a pass from Gallo. The Sailfish answered with a score in the 32nd minute to make it a 2-1 game in favor of the Tritons entering halftime. Eckerd held an 8-5 advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes of action.
Both teams sent off eight shots in the second half, with Eckerd putting up six of its looks through the first 15 minutes. In the 73rd minute, Ozbolt notched her third goal of the season to extend the Tritons' advantage to two at 3-1. PBA answered with a tally in the 87th minute, but Eckerd held the Sailfish without a shot attempt the rest of the way to hang on for the 3-2 victory.
The Tritons held a 16-13 advantage in the shots category, led by Ozbolt's six attempts. Madi Winn earned the win in net and finished with eight saves.
With the victory, Eckerd improves to 4-4-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the SSC. The team will next battle Valdosta State in a non-conference matchup on Monday on the road.
