ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- Despite a close first half, the Eckerd men's basketball team fell to Rollins, 78-67, at St. Pete College Gibbs Campus on Wednesday night.
Rollins jumped out to an initial lead with a two-possession favor at the 12-minute media timeout. However, Isaiah Placide gave the Tritons back the lead, accounting for all of Eckerd's points during a 16-5 run as EC took a 30-27 favor with 6:53 left. The Tritons and Tars swapped leads the rest of the half as RC took a 41-38 edge at intermission.
Rollins maintained its edge in the second half, holding on to a one-possession lead until they scored nine consecutive points for a 59-49 lead with 11:53 left. Rollins pushed its advantage to 15 with six minutes left. Eckerd scored eight straight points to cut its deficit to seven with three minutes left. However, they were unable to complete the comeback, falling 78-67.
