ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's soccer team opened up the 2024 season with a 0-0 draw against No. 12 Lee University (Tenn.) at Johnson Field on Thursday night.
Both teams got off to a slow start, with neither team able to generate a shot in the opening ten minutes. Eckerd had a couple of chances on corner kicks early in the game, but could not convert. The Tritons had two shots in the 14th minute, which were both turned aside by Lee. After the first half was stalled due to a weather delay, the Tritons closed out the half still knotted at zero.
The Tritons outshot the Lady Flames 4-3 in the second frame. With a free kick just outside the box in the waning seconds of the game, the Tritons had the chance to take the victory, and the shot was just over the crossbar to end the game in a 0-0 tie.
