Tritons Take Two at Flame Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Eckerd volleyball team won a pair of matches at the Flame Invitational on Friday, besting Arkansas Tech in the opener in straight sets before rallying from a 2-1 deficit against the hosts Lee to win, 3-2, in five sets.  

Eckerd and Arkansas tech swapped points through the opening set, but the Tritons capped the set with three consecutive points to win it, 25-22. The second set echoed the first, with the teams neck and neck, but Eckerd used a late 7-1 run to seal the second frame, 25-23. An early lead gave the Tritons the edge in the final set to take the match 25-21. 

A 9-4 run capped the opening set versus the Flames as Eckerd took the opener 25-20. A back-and-forth second set went to the Flames, 25-23. An 8-1 run by Lee was the difference in the third stanza, as Lee won it 25-20. EC rallied to take the fourth, 25-23, on a late 8-1 run. Eckerd forced a string of Lee attack errors as part of seven straight points to take the match 15-12.

NOTES AND NUMBERS  

  • Two Tritons logged double-digit kills in the opener: Kinga Michalska (16) and Stella Antypa (11). They added six and seven digs each, respectively, as well. 
  • Gabi Jedrzejczak posted 33 assists in the opener. 
  • Sydney Williams paced the back row with 12 digs in the opener and 13 in the finale. 
  • Three Tritons logged double-digit kills in the second match: Antypa (15), Hayden Nash (12), and Nyla Muskovin (10). Nash's 12 kills are a career-high. 
  • Grace Dumont added a pair of career-highs in the finale with a 28-assists, 11-dig double-double. 
  • Kaitlyn Dohs added a career-high 13 digs in the finale. She also had 10 in the opener. 
  • The Tritons added a season-high 10 blocks in the opener.
