WINTER PARK, Fla. - After a back-and-forth second half, a pair of late free throws was the difference as Rollins defeated the Eckerd men's basketball team 83-80 at the Alfond Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Tars opened the game on a 12-3 run before EC rolled off eight straight points to pull within one. After three minutes of scoreless action, an Isaiah Placide triple gave Eckerd the lead. The teams swapped leads before a 9-0 Tars run gave them a six-point edge with five minutes left before taking a 38-34 lead at the break.
Rollins' lead fluctuated between three and seven points over the first seven minutes of the second half before back-to-back triples by Mekhi Perry gave the Tritons a two-point lead at the 12-minute media. The teams swapped leads over the next 10 minutes. A pair of made free throws by George Kimble gave Eckerd a late 73-71 edge with 2:36 left. RC took the lead moments later, but a Kimble jumper tied the game at 77-77 with 1:01 left. Rollins drew a foul and made a pair of free throws while Eckerd missed its opportunity in the next possession as the Tars sealed the win.
