ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Despite pulling within three in the final minute, the Eckerd men's basketball team dropped its contest with Texas in Dallas, 70-67, on Sunday afternoon at St. Pete College. 
Eckerd and the Comets swapped baskets early before UTD went on a 7-0 run to push in front. They maintained between a five to eight-point lead until the Tritons cut their deficit to three with 8:23 left. Texas Dallas stayed in front the rest of the half and took a 34-30 favor at intermission. 
Back-to-back baskets by Timothy Thompson and a free throw by Isaiah Placide to open the second half gave EC a one-point lead. The Tritons and Comets traded leads, with Eckerd going up by as many as five until UTD used a 16-2 run to take a 63-54 advantage with 3:44 left. A triple followed by an-and-one free throw by Kent Garard with 1:16 left pulled EC within a possession late. Texas Dallas went up by six with 13 seconds left, but Garard responded with a triple again to pull within three. However, Eckerd was unable to get a turnover in the last possession to attempt a game-winner.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 
	- Garard led Eckerd with 20 points. 
- Brady Patterson was the Tritons' second-leading scorer with a career-high nine points. He also added three steals. 
- Thompson led Eckerd on the boards with six. 
- The leads changed seven times, and the score tied seven times as well.
