ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team fell to No. 8 Tampa at St. Pete Catholic High School on Monday evening as the Spartans hit .414 on the night.
UTampa jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set. They maintained a sizable advantage the rest of the frame and held set point at 24-13 before the Tritons rallied with five straight points. However, Tampa took the stanza. The Spartans again jumped out to an early lead in set two. However, Eckerd responded with a 10-4 run to pull within one at 12-11. EC evened the score at 16-16, but Tampa capped the set with a 9-2 stretch. Eckerd hung close at 14-12 in the third frame, but the Spartans pulled away for the match win.
