ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's basketball team fended off a second-half push by Puerto Rico Bayamon on Monday night at St. Pete College to defeat the Cowboys 87-82.
Eckerd got off to a quick start with a 14-6 favor near the first media timeout. UPRB quickly evened the score two minutes later, but the Tritons responded by taking a seven-point lead. EC's lead fluctuated between two and 10 points the rest of the half before taking a 43-35 favor at intermission.
The Cowboys trimmed their deficit to one to start the second stanza but Eckerd pushed back in front by eight with 16:19 left. UPRB rallied to even the score at 57-57 with 12:15, but Eckerd responded again with an 11-1 run to take a double-digit advantage. The Tritons maintained an arms-length lead until back-to-back triples pulled the Cowboys within three in the final three minutes. EC made its free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

- Isaiah Placide led Eckerd with 16 points, while Miquel Llompart added 15 points off the bench.

- Eckerd shot a season-high 53.8 percent from the floor and 65.0 percent from the perimeter. Placide led Eckerd with five triples.
