DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After falling behind in the first quarter, the Eckerd women's basketball team was unable to rally back against the Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Eagles, falling 85-70 on Wednesday night.
Jaylen Ostensen opened the scoring for the Tritons in the opening minute of the game. That would be the only lead of the night for Eckerd. A three-pointer by the Eagles gave them the lead which they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Embry-Riddle worked all the way up to a 10-point lead when Ostensen brought the Triton deficit back to single digits to end the first frame trailing 20-13. The two teams traded baskets to open the second quarter before a pair of runs late in the period handed the eagles a 47-30 point lead heading into the half.
Lisa Michaelsen led the Tritons in the third quarter with nine points off the bench, but the Eagles held onto a 22-point advantage heading into the final frame. Ostensen and Greta Carollo started off the final quarter with a seven-point run for the Tritons. Fouls committed by the Eagles gave Eckerd plenty of free-throw chances to which they began to chip away at Embry-Riddle's lead. The Eagles added back to their lead, closing the game out 85-70.
