BOCA RATON, Fla. - Trailing by two heading into the fourth quarter, a late surge vaulted the Eckerd women's basketball team into the lead on Saturday night, defeating the Fighting Knights 60-52 on the road.
The Knights were off to a hot start, opening up the contest with eight unanswered points, holding Eckerd scoreless for over three minutes. Lisa Michaelsen opened the Tritons' scoring with a triple at the 6:50 mark to put Eckerd on the board. Seven points by Chance Bucher down the stretch gave Eckerd a 14-12 favor after the first frame. The Knights retaliated in the second quarter, regaining the favor, working up to a seven-point lead. A late jumper by Martyna Kowalska and a free throw by Bucher brought the Tritons within four, trailing 27-23 at the half.
Michaelsen and Greta Carollo flipped the momentum in the Tritons' favor out of the break, tying the score at 27-27. The Tritons pulled ahead by a narrow margin, and held onto the lead until the halfway point of the period. Lynn tied the score twice again before regaining their lead. A Knights' layup at the buzzer gave them the 39-37 advantage heading into the final period. After an opening layup by the Knights, Eckerd went on an 11-point run, gaining an eight-point lead. Lynn attempted to come back late in the game, but the Tritons efficiency at the free throw line allowed Eckerd to hold on to the lead in the final minutes of the game. Finished by a pair of free-throws by Ieva Korzane, Eckerd defeated the Knights by a final score of 60-52.
