TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd women's basketball team took the lead early and never looked back on the way to a 65-52 victory over Spring Hill (Ala.) on Saturday morning at the Bob Martinez Center.
Eckerd opened the game aggressively, and jumped out to a 10-5 favor at the 6:00 minute mark. EC maintained its lead and took a 22-12 favor to end the first stanza. The Tritons stayed in the driver's seat in the second period with a double-digit lead before the Badgers cut the lead to nine, 37-29, at intermission.
Eckerd started the second half slowly with just one basket over the opening five minutes, as SHC cut its deficit to four at the 3:57 mark. The Tritons capped the third period on a 10-5 run to take a 51-42 edge at the end of the third. EC pushed out to a 12-point lead to start the final stanza, but the Badgers trimmed the lead to six with three minutes remaining. However, Eckerd fended SHC off late to seal the win.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Chance Bucher led Eckerd with 15 points, while Ieva Korzane (13) and Lisa Michaelsen (11) rounded out the double-figure scores.
- Jaylen Ostensen led the Tritons on the boards with eight while Bucher had seven.
- EC shot 44.2 percent from the floor, and limited SHC to a 28.6 field goal percentage.
- Bucher went 4-for-6 from deep.
