Tritons' Second Half Rally Falls Short at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd men's basketball team used a large run to pull within two after trailing by as many as 16. However, the Tritons were unable to make up the difference, falling in their SSC opener at Florida Southern on Wednesday, 85-75.

EC and FSC traded baskets in the early goings of the game before the Moccasins went on a 10-0 run to take a 27-15 favor with 10 minutes remaining. The Tritons went on an 11-2 run to pull within a possession at the two-minute mark. However, the Mocs went on an 11-0 run to end the half with a 44-31 advantage.

FSC went up by 16 to start the second frame, but the Tritons rolled off a 16-2 streak to pull within two at 57-55 with 11:42 remaining. However, FSC responded with 12 straight points, and they cruised the rest of the way for an 85-75 win.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

  • Isaiah Placide led Eckerd with a season-high 22 points.
  • Timothy Thompson posted a career-high 20 points, while Kent Garard rounded out the double-figure scorers with 18 points.
  • Placide, Thompson, and Garard added three steals a piece.
  • Thompson led Eckerd on the boards with eight.
  • Dante Bouchard posted a career-high seven assists.
  • The Tritons shot 38.3 percent in the first half but bounced back to shoot 53.6 percent in the second half.
