ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's soccer team returned home for a 2-2 draw against the University of Tampa at Johnson Field on Wednesday night.
Eckerd came out strong in the first half, establishing control early as Freija Aflenzer netted the opening goal just five minutes in, with a well-placed assist from Jillian Doerger. The Tritons continued their offensive push, keeping Tampa on their heels with seven shots before halftime. Eckerd' was rewarded again in the 34th minute, as Olivia Ozbolt capitalized on another setup from Doerger, sending Eckerd into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Eckerd's defense remained steadfast despite Tampa's efforts to mount a comeback. Tampa managed to get on the board with a goal from Kate Russell in the 62nd minute. The Tritons continued to apply pressure on both ends of the field but with just minutes remaining, Tampa's Lindsey Emerson found an equalizer, ending the match in a 2-2 draw.
