Woodhead's Strike Lifts Tritons Over Moccasins

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd women's soccer team held on to an early lead to shutout Florida Southern 1-0 at Berend Field on Tuesday night.

The Tritons came out of the gates and immediately put pressure on the Moccasins. Morgan Massie had a promising chance in the opening ten minutes from just outside the box that missed the net by mere inches. Eckerd struck in the 22nd minute when Amy Woodhead stole the ball in the midfield, shooting from the left sideline and finding the bottom right corner for the 1-0 lead. Neither team could generate much more momentum in the later goings of the half, heading into the intermission with a 1-0 Triton favor.

Both teams struggled to get shots on target in the second half when Olivia Ozbolt had a chance in the 72nd minute to increase the lead, but it was turned aside by the Mocs' goalkeeper. Eckerd had two quality chances in the final three minutes of the game to increase their tally on a pair of corner kicks, but could not convert. Eckerd was stingy defensively, allowing one shot on goal in the entire game, to preserve the 1-0 shutout.
