LAKELAND, Fla. - After trailing by 10 in the second half, the Eckerd men's basketball team surged late on the heels of an 11-2 and 7-0 run to rally past Florida Southern, 85-80, at Jenkins Field House on Wednesday night, knocking off the Moccasins who sat second in the conference standings.
The Tritons struggled early as FSC opened the game with a 10-0 start over the first five minutes. The Moccasins maintained a steady lead until Eckerd trimmed its deficit to two at the 3:16 mark, following a 10-4 run before entering the half trailing 35-33.
FSC held an arms-length lead throughout the opening of the second half, pushing out to a 10-point lead at the 13:33 mark. Eckerd rallied with an 11-2 run to even the score at 59-59 near the eight-minute media timeout. The teams stayed within a possession of each other over the next five minutes. The Mocs held a 73-70 favor at the 2:41 mark, but EC scored seven straight points to take a 77-74 edge with 1:21 left. FSC pulled within two, but George Kimble knocked down a big triple on the next possession while Eckerd hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Carr Thiam led all scorers with 26 points. Isaiah Placide (21), Timothy Thompson (14), and George Kimble (12) rounded out the double-figure scorers.
- Thompson posted his fourth double-double of the season, adding a career-high 17 rebounds.
- Thompson's 17 boards are the most by a Triton since Trevon Young pulled down 17 twice in 2018, against Lynn (February 4) and Palm Beach Atlantic (February 24).
- Kimble and Will Willard added two steals each.
- Eckerd shot 43.9 percent from the floor with a 50.0 percent clip in the second half, while the Mocs shot 40.8 percent in the game.
- Eckerd collects its first win over Florida Southern since March 11, 2018.
