Tritons' Upset Bid Falls Short at No. 3 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - After trailing by 21 points in the second half, the Eckerd men's basketball team rallied to pull within one point with three minutes left. However, the Tritons were unable to complete the upset, falling to No. 3 Nova Southeastern, 88-84, at Rick Case Arena on Wednesday night.

Eckerd and NSU traded baskets throughout the start of the game, with neither team able to generate more than a two-possession lead. The Tritons held a five-point lead at the 6:58 mark. However, the Sharks ended the half on a 24-9 run to take a 51-41 favor at intermission.

Nova Southeastern scored 12 consecutive points to take a 69-48 advantage at the 15:05 mark. Eckerd followed with a 10-2 run to pull within 13 at the 12-minute mark. The Sharks stretched back out to 17, but the Tritons responded with a 23-7 stretch to pull within one on a pair of George Kimble free throws at the 3:17 mark. NSU went back up by three moments later before both teams failed to score for the next two and a half minutes before a Timothy Thompson dunk pulled Eckerd back within one. However, EC could not put up the go-ahead basket, while the Sharks made their free throws to seal the 88-84 win.
