ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After a two-hour weather delay, a pair of braces by Kendall Drummond and Aisling Spillane lifted the Eckerd women's soccer team over Florida Southern by a score of 4-3 at Johnson Field on Wednesday night.
Three first-half goals gave the Tritons a comfortable cushion. Drummond opened the scoring for EC less than two minutes into the game with a rocket to the top right corner off a feed from Sierra Hudson. Spillane followed up with a goal off a free kick for a 2-0 Triton favor in the ninth minute. Drummond added another goal in the 25th minute for a brace off a feed from Brooke Bisko, taking a 3-0 lead into the break.
Spillane did not waste any time in the following frame, finishing off a corner kick from Jillian Doerger in the 46th minute. The Moccasins were down 4-0 but not out of the game. Sierra Spirk converted off a corner kick to break Eckerd's shutout in the 56th minute. She added another two goals on the night off of a pair of penalty kicks in the 87th and 90th minute, but it was not enough to rally as Eckerd took their first conference win, 4-3.
