TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team dropped its SSC opener at No. 4 Tampa, 3-0, at the Bob Martinez Center on Friday, snapping the Tritons' seven-match win streak to start the season.
After a tight start to the opening set, Tampa rolled off seven straight points to take a sizeable lead. Eckerd battled back to pull within two points at 15-13 but could not reach any closer, falling 25-18. EC took an early jump in the second stanza, but the Spartans used a six-point rally to take the lead. Eckerd stayed within two points through the majority of the set before UT capped the frame on a 7-2 stretch to win it 25-18.
Eckerd and Tampa swapped points in the first half of the third stanza, with EC holding a 12-11 lead. However, UT went on a 6-0 to pull away before winning the match 25-17.
