ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - An early goal made the difference as the Eckerd women's soccer team dropped their first road match of the season to the No. 10 Flagler (Fla.) Saints, 1-0 at Saints Field on Wednesday evening.
The Saints got out to an early jump as Andrea Fernandez split two Eckerd defenders and placed the ball over the Tritons goalkeeper in the fifth minute. Cadence Talbert was tested a couple more times as she turned away Moa Arlebo and Fernandez in the seventh and ninth minutes. The Tritons could only generate two shots in the first half to trail 1-0 into the break.
The Tritons put more pressure in the second frame, rattling off six shots with two good chances in the 74th and 76th minutes. Both Aisling Spillane and Kendall Drummond were stifled by the Saints Keeper Henley Grunst to keep Eckerd off the board. A late corner kick for the Tritons was their last chance to even the score, but a blocked shot on the goal line saw Eckerd fall 1-0.
