SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team fell 6-1 in its final home match of the season to the No. 14 Lynn Fighting Knights on Thursday afternoon.
The Tritons (8-8) fell to the Knights (12-6) after dropping the doubles point in a split decision and five of six singles matches.
The doubles point was decided in the No. 2 draw, as Esteve Augusti and Batu Ataseven won the top pairing, 6-1. Christian Kearns and Sam Walker put up a fight in the second spot, but were unable to secure the doubles point for EC, falling 6-4 to Haktan Garayev and Ray Chavez.
In singles competition, Augusti picked up the lone Eckerd win, defeating Gabriele Felline in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Ataseven came close to forcing a third set in the No. 1 spot but fell 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). Kearns also had a strong showing in singles play, willing seven games against Yaron Guberman, but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-2.
The Tritons travel to Barry University on April 15th at 1:00 PM for their final regular season match.
