ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team earned another win at home for a four-match win streak, taking down Walsh (Ohio), 5-1, at the Bullard Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tritons (4-4) beat the Cavaliers (5-5) after taking the doubles point as well as four singles matches.
The Tritons took the doubles point 2-1, with Esteve Augusti and Batu Ataseven leading the way with a 6-1 victory over the pairing of Ethan Milligan and Ben Hoffman in the No. 1 draw. Jon William Karlstad and Christian Kearns clinched the point with a 6-2 favor over the pairing of Medina Puigmarti and Arfaras in the No. 3 slot.
The Tritons took all but one match over Walsh in singles play, winning the No. 1, 2, 4, and 5 draws. Augusti had the closest match in the No. 1 spot, as he took down Luis Hernandez 6-4, 7-5. Ataseven had an easy go at the No. 2 position, taking Lukas Kohler in two sets, 6-1, 6-2. Kearns picked up another win out of the No. 4 draw, defeating Dawson Drummond 6-3, 6-4. Sam Walker rounded out the singles wins for the Tritons in the No. 5 draw, 6-3, 6-2.
The Tritons are home at the Bullard Courts on Sunday for Senior Day as they are set to face The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), with first serve at 11:00 AM.
