WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team fell 6-1 on the road Monday afternoon to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish.
The Tritons (8-6; 0-4 SSC) fell to the Sailfish (1-11; 1-3 SSC) after taking the double's point in an exhilarating fashion before dropping all six singles matches.Â
Esteve Augusti and Batu Ataseven were first to finish with a 6-2 victory over the Sailfish's top pairing of Marko Visontai and Blake Williams. The No. 2 slot fell next, leaving the decision to the No. 3 draw. Christian Kearns and Jon William Karlstad picked up a thrilling victory in a tiebreak to take the double's point for the Tritons 7-6 (7-2).
Augusti got the early jump 6-3 before falling 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot. Eric Asakura also picked up a set win in the No. 4 position, taking set one 6-4 before falling 6-2, 6-2. Karlstad was the last Triton to take a set from the Sailfish, shutting out Visontai in the opening set, ultimately falling 6-4, 6-3.Â
The Tritons face two weeks off from competition and remain on the road to face Saint Leo on Wednesday, April 5, at 3:00 PM.
