ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team defeated the Post University Eagles (Conn.) 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (5-5) defeated the Eagles (3-1) by sweeping all three doubles draws and taking five of the six singles matches.
The Tritons swept the doubles point, with all three flights defeating their opponents. Esteve Augusti and Batu Ataseven downed the Eagles' top pairing of James Vincent and Anton Anderson 6-3. Eric Asakura and Sam Walker edged out a close victory 7-5 in the No.2 draw. Christian Kearns and Jon William Karlstad topped the pairing of Cooper Smith and Niklas Langenfeld 6-2 in the No. 3 slot.
Eckerd nearly swept all six singles matches, only falling in the No. 5 position. Augusti defeated Vincent 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 draw. Ataseven took Gustavo Kerber 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets. Asakura followed suit with a pair of 6-3 straight-set victories. Kearns had the quickest match, taking Andersson 6-2, 6-3. Karlstad rounded out the Triton victories with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Josh Cronje.
The Tritons are home again Thursday for the first of their final three matches at the Bullard Courts against Dallas Baptist University (Texas) with first serve at 2:00 PM.
