ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A career-high 19-point night for Ragnheidur Einarsdottir and a 20-point night by Sofia Persson lifted the No. 8 Eckerd women's basketball team over Florida Southern, 73-68 on Wednesday night at the McArthur Center.
A slow-scoring start saw over a minute of action without either team scoring a basket. Hannah Wentworth netted a free throw to open the scoring. Florida Southern answered back to a 4-1 advantage before Einarsdottir knotted it up at 4-4. After back-and-forth action, the Tritons ended the quarter up 20-17. Lauryn Vieira quickly regained Eckerd's lead before the Mocs went on a five-point run. Persson chipped away until a 3-pointer from Einarsdottir gave the Tritons the lead once more with 1:23 remaining in the frame. The Tritons took a 54-52 favor into the final frame. The Tritons and Mocs traded baskets the first two and a half minutes of the final quarter when an and-one bucket from Ashley Shell narrowed Eckerd's margin to one.
