Six Tritons Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's soccer team was well-represented on the annual College Sports Communicators (CSC) annual Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, with six Tritons receiving the honor: Lucas Berglund, Jannik Brengel, Harry Laing, Tommy Lamb, Aidan Leak, and Micah Nelson

Berglund, from Uppsala, Sweden, holds a 3.96 grade point average in psychology. He played in all 15 games with 12 starts, adding a goal against Embry-Riddle. he played in 44 games over his EC career. He is a two-time recipient of the SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll and was named to the CSC Academic All-District team last year. 

Bengal, from Kaiserslautern, Germany, boasts a 3.66 GPA in international business. He played in 12 games with 11 starts while netting two goals. He has played in 20 contests over his career. He is a  recipient of the SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. 

Laing, from Rainham, Kent, England, holds a grade point average of 3.65 in marketing. He started in 14 games this year with a pair of goals and an assist. He appeared in 40 contests over his career with five goals and seven assists. He is a  three-time recipient of the SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll and was named to the CSC Academic All-District team last year.

Lamb, from Kent, England, boasts a 3.52 GPA in marketing. He started all 15 games this season, logging two goals and an assist while playing over 1,319 minutes. Over his career, he played in 44 games with five goals and an assist. He is a three-time recipient of the SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll and was named to the CSC Academic All-District team last year.

Leak, from Cape Town, South Africa, holds a 3.8 grade point average in computer science. Leak started in 13 games in goal, posting five shutouts, 46 saves, and a 1.49 goals-against average. He was a three-time SSC Defensive Player of the Week. 

Nelson, from San Clemente, California, maintains a GPA of 3.55 in Economics. He started in all 15 games for Eckerd this year while dishing out an assist. He appeared in 30 games over his two-year Eckerd career. He was selected to the SSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll.

The 2023 Academic All‐District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.5  or higher in order to qualify for selection. The CSC Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
