ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Fueled by an 11-point lead at halftime, the Eckerd men's basketball team collected its first victory of the season over Allen (SC) by a score of 65-55 on day two of the EC Classic at the McArthur Center on Sunday afternoon.
After a back-and-forth opening five minutes, back-to-back triples by Isaiah Placide ignited a 9-2 run as EC took a seven-point favor. A late 11-2 run put EC up by 15 just before the half before taking a 40-29 lead at intermission.
Allen opened the second half with an 11-2 run to pull within six. The Yellow Jackets later pulled within four, but Eckerd followed with a 9-0 run to take a double-digit lead. EC's lead fluctuated between a seven to twelve-point lead until the two-minute mark as AU cut its deficit to 60-55, but the Tritons kept Allen off the board the rest of the way to preserve the win.
