Tritons’ Rally Falls Short at Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - After a slow start, the Eckerd volleyball team rallied back to tie the game at two sets apiece. However, Palm Beach Atlantic claimed the fifth set as the Tritons fell, 3-2, on Friday night at Rubin Arena. 

Eckerd and PBA swapped leads throughout the first stanza, with the Sailfish pulling away 25-22. A 17-5 run fueled the Sailfish in the second frame as they won it 25-18 for a two-set lead. 

After swapping points in the third set, Eckerd used a 7-2 stretch to take a 19-16 favor, holding their edge to take the set 25-21. A close fourth frame ensued, with Eckerds using a 6-2 run to cap the set and force a fifth set, 25-20. 

PBA jumped out to a 5-3 favor in the fifth, but Eckerd responded with four straight points. Eckerd rolled off six consecutive points to take a 14-11 lead at match point, but the Sailfish went on a 6-1 run to take the match.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Two Tritons posted double-doubles: Seiler Hruska (14 kills, 15 digs) and Stella Antypa (13 kills, 20 digs). 
  • Jaida Clark tied for the team lead with 14 kills while bolstering an impressive .455 hitting percentage. 
  • Aleksa Curta posted 24 assists and six digs, while Saray Sampson added 22 assists. 
  • Ashley Eck led the squad with 25 digs.
