ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A late goal by Jillian Doerger elevated the Eckerd women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Barry Buccaneers on Senior Night, Wednesday at Johnson Field.
Prior to the game, Eckerd honored its five seniors for their contributions to the women's soccer program: Brooke Bisko, Lara Sanchez-Rodriguez, Kaia Senecal, Aisling Spillane, and Krystal Torres.Â
The game was off to a slow start, with neither team able to generate much offensive momentum. Eckerd outshot Barry 4-3 in the opening frame with a 0-0 draw heading into the break.
The Tritons had a chance in the 82nd minute to take the lead, as a goal by Kendall Drummond was called back for offsides to keep the score knotted at zero. With just over two minutes to play, Sierra Hudson stole the ball on the right edge of the box and sent a cross into Doerger, who fired a shot into the top right corner for the lone goal of the night for Eckerd to take the match 1-0.Â
