Tritons Sweep Buccaneers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team swept the Barry Buccaneers 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center. 

The game began with a tight first match. The Tritons and Bucs traded points to begin the set before Barry went on a four-point run to lead 15-11. The Tritons and Bucs rallied again before Barry jumped out to a 20-14 favor. A kill by Seiler Hruska started the ball rolling for the Tritons to go on a seven-point streak to lead 24-23. Barry brought the set to deuce before a kill by Stella Antypa and a block by Nyla Muskovin and Jaida Clark closed the set for the Tritons, 26-24. 

After BU jumped out to a four-point lead, Eckerd fought back with an eight-point streak to lead 12-8. Another seven-point run catapulted the Tritons to a 19-12 lead. They closed the set with three straight kills by Muskovin, Kalli Schoening, and Hruska to take set two 25-16. The Tritons completed the sweep in set three with a 25-19 victory.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

  • Hruska led the Tritons with 15 kills. 
  • Clark led with five blocks while Muskovin, Kalli Schoening, and Erin Garr added four apiece. 
  • Garr hit an impressive .500 with eight kills on 14 attacks. Clark boasted a .333 hitting clip, with Muskovin and Hruska hitting .294 and .211, respectively. 
  • Ashley Eck posted another double-digit dig performance with 12 digs. 
  • Aleksa Curta and Martina Melicherova each tallied double-digit assists at 19 and 14, respectively.

Eckerd travels to Orlando next weekend for the South Region Crossover on Friday and Saturday.
