ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team rallied to defeat the Lynn Fighting Knights 3-1 and take sole possession of second place in the Sunshine State Conference standings in an exciting matchup on Friday night at the McArthur Center.
A close first match saw the score knotted at 23-23 before Eckerd pulled away with the final two points with a Nyla Miskovin kill and a Knights error to take set one, 25-23. The Knights came out hot in set two with five unanswered points before the Tritons could retaliate. Eckerd dropped the set 25-17.
The Tritons began to pull away in the third frame, gaining a 17-6 margin on the Knights. Lynn once again posted six straight points to bring the Knights within five. However, Eckerd pulled away to take the set 25-17. The teams traded leads in the early goings of the final set. The Tritons put up five unanswered points to trail by one at 17-16. A pair of kills and a block by the Tritons tilted back the favor. Lynn fought back within one at 23-22, but the Tritons pulled away to take the final set and the match 25-22.
