ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's soccer team handed Saint Leo its first loss of the season, as they shut out the Lions 1-0 on Wednesday night at Johnson Field.
The Tritons' offense surged to start the game, firing 13 shots in the first 45 minutes. The Lions' offense was even, firing six shots, but Eckerd kept Saint Leo scoreless.
Maitane Bravo kept the Lions in the game as she stopped 11 of the Tritons' 12 shots on goal. However, she could not thwart Eckerd's offense long enough. A late corner kick in the 82nd minute secured EC the win. Sophomore midfielder Aisling Spillane converted off a corner from Krystal Torres, heading the ball into the top left corner past Bravo.
Zoe Brasher remains outstanding in goal for the Tritons. The reigning SSC Defensive Player of the week collected the second solo shutout of her career as she turned aside all four of Saint Leo's shots on goal.
