Tritons Drop First Conference Match to No. 21 Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer team dropped its first conference matchup, 2-1, on the road to No. 21 Rollins Saturday night.

The Tritons came out hot to start the game. Aisling Spillane wasted no time tallying a shot on goal a mere 15 seconds into the game that was turned away by the Tars' goalkeeper Michelle Fickett. Fickett picked up another pair of saves before her scoreless streak ended. In the 38th minute, Annie Stook put the Tritons on the board with a goal in the bottom right corner off a rebounded breakaway shot by Brooke Biskoand EC took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Tritons' momentum was silenced at the beginning of the second half, as it became a physical battle for the ball. In the 61st minute, Meghan Mosely tied the game for the Tars off a pass from Sarah Skala, ending the Tritons' 470-minute scoreless streak. A late goal by Jessie Wade on a pass from Mosely in the 75th minute gave the Tars the lead and ultimately the win.

QUOTABLE
"[We] Got to take the positives from a strong showing against a nationally ranked opponent," stated interim head coach Luke Sheekey '10. "We had more shots on goal and corners over 90 minutes, and we could've had more than one goal at halftime. Rollins came out with a lot of energy in the second half, as we said they would, because they're a top team with a lot of talent. We will pick ourselves up and go again on Wednesday against another top SSC team."
