ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer team shut out the St. Thomas (Fla.) Bobcats by a score of 1-0 on Sunday night at Johnson Field.
The first half was an even match between the Tritons and the Bobcats, as they fired four shots in the first 45 minutes.
The Tritons turned up the pressure in the second half, registering eight shots. Bobcats' goalkeeper Isabella Penaranda turned aside four Eckerd shots on goal, but she could not fend off the Tritons' offense much longer. The Bobcats' defense blocked a late corner kick by Kaia Senecal. Senecal recollected the ball and sent in a cross to sophomore midfielder Aisling Spillane, who headed the ball in the top left corner for the game-winner in the 69th minute.
The Tritons' defense was on lockdown, only allowing two shots in the second half and shutting out their opponent for the third straight game.
