ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team earned its first sweep of the season, 7-0, against Stonehill (Mass.) Sunday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (2-5) defeated the Skyhawks (4-1) by winning the doubles point and taking all six singles matches in straight sets.
The No. 1 duo of Pierre-Olivier Lassalle and Prakrut Patel cruised to an easy win, 6-2. Arthur de Souza Fonseca and Christian Kearns also won out of the No. 2 position 6-3. The only match EC conceded on the day was in No. 3 doubles, with Eric Asakura and Arik Suez narrowly losing, 6-4.
Lassalle cruised to victory in the No. 1 singles slot 6-1 and 6-0. Patel also made easy work of his matchup, besting Stonehill's Christian Duffy 6-0 and 6-3 in the No. 2 draw. Fonseca mirrored Lassalle's score with a 6-1 and 6-0 victory out of the No. 3 position, giving the Tritons the match.
Asakura (7-5, 6-1), Kearns (7-6 (7-5), 6-0), and Suez (6-3, 6-3) each won their singles matchups in straight sets out of the No. 4, 5, and 6 slots, respectively.
Eckerd hosts Walsh University (Ohio) for a Wednesday afternoon match slated for 3:00 PM at the Bullard Courts.
