ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team fell in an SSC matchup against No. 1 Barry, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Buccaneers (10-4, 4-1 SSC) beat the Tritons (4-7, 0-4 SSC) after earning the doubles point and winning all six singles matchups in straight sets.
The No. 1 pairing of Pierre-Olivier Lassalle and Prakrut Patel took BU's Martin Gutierrez and Ignasi Forcano the distance, narrowly losing 7-5. Barry took the No. 2 and No. 3 positions over Arthur de Souza Fonseca and Christian Kearns (6-2) and Eric Asakura and Arik Suez (6-1).
No. 28 Lassalle won six games out of the No. 1 singles slot and suffered just his second singles defeat of the season, 6-2 and 6-4. Fonseca managed to win four games out of the No. 3 draw, 6-3 and 6-1. Asakura equaled Lassalle, winning six games, but fell, 6-3 and 6-3. Kearns battled out of the No. 5 position, dropping the first set 6-1 but improving in the second set, 6-3.
The Tritons travel for an SSC road contest at No. 11 Lynn on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
