ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team dropped its home opener to No. 7 Embry-Riddle, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Eagles (5-1, 2-0 SSC) beat the Tritons (0-2, 0-2 SSC) after earning the doubles point and winning all six singles matches.
The duo of Christian Kearns and Arthur de Souza Fonseca won four games in the No. 2 doubles slot but ultimately fell 6-4. Partners Pierre-Olivier Lassalle and Prakrut Patel were defeated 6-1 in No. 1 doubles. Eric Asakura and Arik Suez also lost in the No. 3 doubles draw, 6-1, giving the Eagles the doubles point.
Lassalle came out strong in the No. 1 singles position, taking Juan Ortiz Couder to a third-set tiebreak. He won the first set, 6-4, but lost the second set, 6-3, before falling, 6-4, in the third.
Fonseca also won four games out of the No. 3 singles position, falling 6-1 and 6-3.
The Tritons are on the road for the second time this season at Warner (Fla.) on Friday at 3:00 PM.
