LAKELAND, Fla. - Despite holding a halftime lead over the nationally-ranked Moccasins, the Eckerd men's basketball team ultimately fell, 88-79, as No. 14 Florida Southern rallied in the second half at Jenkins Field House Wednesday night.
Thanks to a 9-0 run, Eckerd jumped out to a 16-9 favor with 10:02 remaining in the opening half. The Mocs quickly evened the score, but the Tritons regained the lead at the 3:21 mark before entering intermission up 35-32.
The Mocs went on a 13-3 run early in the second half to take a 53-45 advantage at the 14:12 mark. FSC pushed out to a double-digit lead two minutes later, and EC trimmed its deficit to five, 70-65, with under six minutes remaining. However, Florida Southern responded to go in front by 12 with 3:25 remaining and cruised the rest of the way.
