ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Fueled by a 16-4 stretch early in the second half, the Eckerd men's basketball team collected a 85-73 victory over Lynn in its season opener Saturday afternoon in the McArthur Center.
After falling behind early, 15-7, Eckerd responded with a 9-2 run to pull within two, 18-16, at the 12:30 mark. EC went on to take the lead, 28-24, five minutes later following a 12-6 run. The teams swapped leads the rest of the way, with Eckerd taking a 41-39 favor at intermission.
After an initial basket by Lynn to open the second half, Eckerd followed with a 16-4 stretch to take a 57-45 advantage at the 14:05 mark. LU cut the Tritons' edge to six, 61-55, at the 11:10 mark. EC rolled off six consecutive points at the six-minute mark to take a 13-point favor, and Eckerd cruised the rest of the way to an 85-73 win.
