Eckerd Takes Two On Opening Day of South Region Crossover

HOOVER, Ala. - The Eckerd volleyball team opened the South Region Crossover with a pair of 3-1 victories at the Finley Center on Friday. The Tritons topped Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) in the first match before taking down their second-ranked opponent of the week in No. 13 West Florida in the nightcap. 

EC got off to a slow start dropping the opener, 25-20, against AUM. However, the Tritons responded to take the second set easily, 25-18. Eckerd won a close third set, 25-23, before capitalizing on a 7-3 and 8-1 stretch in the finale to win the match, 25-13. 

The Tritons used a 10-2 run midway through the opening set versus UWF to claim the stanza, 25-19. Following a back-and-forth second frame, Eckerd received back-to-back kills from Agata Sklepik and Nyla Muskovin to win the set, 28-26. The Argonauts cruised in the third stanza, 25-13. However, the Tritons bounced back for the victory in the final set, 25-19.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Joelle Coulter (17 kills, 13 digs) and Stella Antypa (13 kills, 16 digs) posted double-doubles in the opener. 
  • Antypa also added five aces against AUM. 
  • Coulter hit at a .302 percent clip over the Warhawks. 
  • Garrison added 36 assists and six digs in the opener. She followed with 40 assists and three aces in the finale. 
  • Anna Jungjohann led EC in the finale with 14 kills while hitting .385 percent. 
  • Three Tritons added double-digit digs against UWF: Ashley Eck (12), Antypa (11), and Sklepik (10). 
  • Eckerd hit .209 as a team against the Argonauts. 
  • Eckerd collected its second win over a nationally-ranked opponent this week after beating No. 13 West Florida tonight and No. 4 Tampa earlier this week.
