LAKELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought battle on Berend Field at Florida Southern Wednesday night, 2-1.
The Mocs scored only ten minutes into the match when Caitlyn Lowery crossed the ball into Lindsey Meyer, giving Florida Southern the early 1-0 lead. Late in the first half, FSC had a couple of chances to increase their lead, but sophomore goalkeeper Cadence Talbert turned aside a Moccasin shot from Tatum Albrecht. Aisling Spillane converted on a corner kick in the 37th minute, putting it past Jenny Staten, and knotting the game at one. Talbert made another stop on Albrecht to keep the score tied at one going into the half.
Lowery picked up another assist as Morgan Collica headed in a corner kick from Lowery to give the Moccasins the 2-1 favor. In the 78th minute, Spillane had another excellent chance to tie the game at two, but her shot was turned aside by Staten. Talbert made a crucial stop in the 80th minute on Allison Jenkins, keeping the Tritons within one. Spillane had a final chance for the Tritons in the 86th minute, missing high. Even with a couple of late chances, the Tritons were unable to equalize, falling to the Moccasins 2-1.
