Eckerd Drops Matchup at Tampa, 2-1

TAMPA, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer team dropped its Sunshine State Conference matchup against Tampa, 2-1, at Pepin Stadium on Wednesday night.
 
Eckerd started the match aggressively as Mackenzie Maggio buried a shot for her first goal of the season in the opening minute. Just eight minutes later, the Spartans evened the score as Stephanie deLaforcade converted on a penalty kick.
 
Hajar Benjoud registered three shots on goal in the first half, including back-to-back shots in the 42nd and 43rd minutes, but they could not solve Tampa keeper Lovisa Camel, and the Tritons and Spartans went into the second half tied 1-1.
 
Tampa opened the second half with four consecutive shots, with deLaforcade converting in the 55th minute. Eckerd outshot Tampa 6-3 the rest of the match but was unable to capitalize.

  • Drummond picked up the first point of her career with her assist.
  • Both teams fired 12 shots, with Eckerd leading in shots on goal 8-3.
  • Benjoud registered a career-high eight shots and five shots on goal. 
  • Krystal Torres and Benjoud each played a full 90 minutes. India Fortner and Haley DeSanto each narrowly played full time, playing 89 and 86 minutes, respectively.
