TAMPA, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer team dropped its Sunshine State Conference matchup against Tampa, 2-1, at Pepin Stadium on Wednesday night.
Eckerd started the match aggressively as
Mackenzie Maggio buried a shot for her first goal of the season in the opening minute. Just eight minutes later, the Spartans evened the score as Stephanie deLaforcade converted on a penalty kick.
Hajar Benjoud registered three shots on goal in the first half, including back-to-back shots in the 42nd and 43rd minutes, but they could not solve Tampa keeper Lovisa Camel, and the Tritons and Spartans went into the second half tied 1-1.
Tampa opened the second half with four consecutive shots, with deLaforcade converting in the 55th minute. Eckerd outshot Tampa 6-3 the rest of the match but was unable to capitalize.
