ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Men's basketball alum Joey Cantens '09 was named the head men's basketball coach at Daytona State as released by Daytona State on July 1.
Cantens spent the past three seasons as the assistant coach at Florida Gulf Coast. He also served a three-year stint as the director of basketball operations at FGCU from 2011-14, where the team reached the Sweet 16.
He spent the 2014-15 season as the director of scouting and video operations at the University of Southern California.
Cantens also spent time coaching internationally with MHP Riesen in Germany and with the Dominican Republic National Team.
Cantens played three seasons with the Tritons, helping the team to two NCAA tournament appearances, including the Sweet 16 in 2007. He also helped guide the team to the SSC Tournament Championship title in 2007 as well.
