ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Playing their second conference contest of the weekend, the Eckerd men's tennis team returned home to host Florida Southern as the Moccasins picked up a 6-1 win at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons took an early lead in doubles play after
Will Stone and
Matt Spasic made quick work of Valentin Hertweck and Miroslav Cvjetan at No. 2 doubles, 6-1. Â Florida Southern, however, soon picked up wins in the remaining two contests to win the doubles point.
Stone also won at No. 2 singles, outlasting Victor Ahlbeck in a third-set tiebreaker. Stone took the first set, 6-3, before Ahlbeck squared the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. Stone then took control in the tiebreaker and took the match with a 10-4 victory.
Spasic likewise went into a third-set tiebreaker with Brian Pham in a lengthy contest. Spasic won the first set 7-6 (7-5) but Pham forced the extra set with a 6-0 victory in set two and went on to claim the tiebreaker, 10-5.
The Tritons are back on the court on Monday hosting Ave Maria at 1:00 PM.
