SAINT LEO, Fla. - Playing their second straight ranked opponent, the Eckerd men's tennis team nearly took the doubles point at No. 4 Saint Leo on Wednesday but ultimately came up short in the match, 6-1.
The Tritons (7-4, 0-3 SSC) got an early doubles win from
Will Stone and
Matt Spasic, 6-2, over Ghali Mensour and Bruno Babic. At No. 1 doubles, Aladsair Knox and
Prakrut Patel forced a tiebreaker with 47th-ranked Bruno Faletto and Leonardo Vega. Faletto and Vega gained early momentum in the tiebreaker and didn't let up on the way to a 7-6 win.
Patel's strong play continued into singles, where he defeated David Perez 6-4, 7-6 to earn Eckerd's point.
Eckerd battled aggressively in the other singles contests but the nationally-ranked Lions (13-5, 4-2 SSC) prevailed in straight sets.
The road gets no easier for the Tritons who will host No. 8 Lynn University tomorrow in a makeup from their February match that was postponed by rain.
